Liberty Stables, located near Rock Creek, BC is dedicated to the breeding and training of fine naturally gaited family horses.
We believe that Tennessee Walking Horses are truly one of the best of the light horse breeds. And without a doubt, the most versatile.
Our horses combine some of the best of the old bloodlines in our stallion "Chance's Liberty Spirit" with some of the great Walking Horse blood of the Pacific Northwest, descendants of the legendary Pearl Tompkins breeding program.
Our foals are pasture born and ranch raised. They learn to navigate creeks and forest and romp in open pastures with the rest of the herd. Our stallion pasture breeds but can be hand bred if an outside client prefers.
Liberty Stables is a proud member of the Canadian Registry of the Tennessee Walking Horse and we also register with the International Pleasure Walking Horse Registry. We believe the Walking Horses are intended for pleasure use and not for padded up big lick show ponies. We are loud and proud supporters of the Sound Horse Movement.
Our Trainer _-Kerry Unrau
Kerry has been riding horses her entire life. Her parents, Orville and Anita Unrau raised Norwegian Fjords. Kerry started competing at age 6and has successfully competed in Western Plesure and Western Equitation, English Pleasure and Equitation, Hunter-Jumpeer, Dressage, 3 day Eventing, Pleasure Drving, Draft Horse hitches.
Kerry started taking in outside horses for training at 13 years old. Her influences are Roy Yates and Larry Brinkhuas.
Her methodology includes putting good ground manners on horses, thoughough sacking out, putting on BIG Whoas, ground driving, transitions walk, middle gait and lope both up and down. Turns on the haunches and forehand. Sidepass on the ground. Then it is all done over again from the saddle.
The horses ought to be light and supple and be able to be ridden on a loose rein with a big, bold walk.
Kerry's training is usually 60 days in length with 30 days in the saddle, out on the trails and in the mountains.
